Liberty Statue at the Citadella on Gellert Hill
360 degree panorama at the Liberty Statue at the Citadella on Gellert Hill in Buda. The statue was erected in 1947 in remembrance of the Soviet liberation of Hungary from the Nazis. The original inscription said it was "in memory of the liberating Russian heroes" but over the years public sentiment turned against the Soviets and after Communist ruled ended in 1989 the inscription was modified to read "To the memory of all those who sacrificed their lives for the independence, freedom, and success of Hungary."
